Background of the Study

Banks are prime targets for cyberattacks due to the sensitive nature of financial data they handle. As cyber threats evolve, the need for robust IT security training programs for employees has become increasingly important. These programs are designed to equip employees with the knowledge and skills to recognize and prevent security threats, reducing the likelihood of data breaches and operational disruptions (Gannon & Wilkins, 2024). This study aims to appraise the effectiveness of IT security training programs in enhancing the cybersecurity posture of banks in Nasarawa State.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing focus on cybersecurity, many banks in Nasarawa State may not be providing sufficient or effective IT security training to their employees. This gap can lead to human errors that contribute to security incidents and data breaches. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of existing IT security training programs in preventing security risks in these banks.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the effectiveness of IT security training programs in enhancing employees’ ability to recognize and mitigate security threats.
  2. To assess the impact of IT security training on reducing the incidence of security breaches in banks.
  3. To identify challenges banks face in implementing effective IT security training programs.

Research Questions

  1. How effective are IT security training programs in enhancing employees' cybersecurity awareness in banks?
  2. What impact does IT security training have on reducing security breaches in banks?
  3. What challenges do banks face in implementing IT security training programs?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Banks that implement comprehensive IT security training programs experience fewer cybersecurity incidents and data breaches.
  2. IT security training programs significantly enhance employees' ability to prevent and respond to cybersecurity threats.
  3. Banks face challenges such as lack of resources and employee engagement in delivering effective IT security training programs.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on banks in Nasarawa State that have implemented IT security training programs. Limitations include the availability of data on the frequency of security breaches and the varying effectiveness of training programs across different institutions.

Definitions of Terms
